COBISS 2018 CONFERENCE

The COBISS Conference 2018 took place in IZUM's facilities in Maribor from 27 to 29 November 2018. It was the 21st consecutive conference and is considered a constant in the meeting of librarians and information science experts in the region. The conference was attended by more than 260 participants from 11 countries, naturally the majority of participants from countries where COBISS is used as the national library system.
The main topic School libraries in the global bibliographic information network was intended for discussing the added value represented by the inclusion of school libraries to the COBISS system containing more than 1,300 libraries in 7 countries at the time of the conference. After the opening speeches by the director of IZUM, director of SRA and the rector of the University of Maribor, the subject matter of the conference was presented by Prof Dorothy Williams (Robert Gordon University) with the results of her research The Impact of School Libraries on Learning. Her presentation was followed by lectures of experts from Slovenia and abroad discussing the topic of school libraries as well as multiple other lectures, presentation of new features and reports from national COBISS centres.
COBISS conferences have an important role in the execution of the mission and tasks of IZUM. They have contributed to making Slovenia the leading character in the development of librarianship in the region, which is also a component of the international development cooperation programme of the Slovene government.
