This field contains the information relating to the bibliographic records that should be relinked to some other authority record. The field is designated for automatic records relinking in bibliographic databases.
The repeated subfields contains IDs of the bibliographic records that should be relinked to the new authority record.
If it is determined that fields in the bibliographic database for different persons with the same name are connected by mistake to the same authority record, it is necessary to divide such a record into more authority records. All records in the bibliographic database that are connected to such authority record should be reviewed in order to pair each record with a proper person.
Field 990 is used when there are comparatively fewer bibliographic records that should be relinked. There are more bibliographic records that stays connected to the already existing authority record; for all other persons the additional authority records should be created.
In the already existing authority record field 990 is entered for each authority record. Field should contain the ID of the new authority record entered in subfield n, and also the IDs of the bibliographic records that should be connected to that authority record, entered in repeated subfields b. In the process of adjustment of the bibliographic and the authority database, the linkage in the bibliographic records to the ID of the divided authority record has been replaced by the linkage to the ID of the new authority record.
