This field contains an identifier related to the entity named in field 2XX, which does not correspond to any other field, and a qualification that further defines the identifier when there is more than one in a record. The field also contains the source of the identifier.

017a Identifier

Identifier; the type depends on the system from which the identifier is obtained.

017b Qualification

Qualification of the identifier in subfield a or z.

017z Erroneous identifier

Identifier, for which you determine that it is used erroneously for a certain entity or that it is invalid in any other way. It is possible that it was assigned to two different entities and thus cancelled. If no valid identifier is known, the field 017 can only contain subfield z.

0172 System code

Code of the system from which the identifier is obtained.

Other identifiers are unique, permanent and internationally accepted alphanumeric codes used for identifying entities. The structure of identifiers is determined by institutions that define them.

The subfield 2 is used only when the value of the first indicator is "7" – system specified in subfield 2.
